India announces huge package to revive tea industry
Indian authorities have announced a massive 47bn rupee ($1.1 bn) package aimed at reviving its tea industry worth $1.5 bn per year, marred by falling prices and slowing exports. The funds will be used to upgrade facilities and rejuvenating aging gardens of worlds largest tea producer in order to increase product quality. Indias tea production rose 13% to 928 million kilograms and exports totaled 180 million kilograms in 2005.
